About Bridie McKenna's

Bridie McKenna’s opened to the public in January 2008 after years of planning and hard work. It is a dream come true for its owners. The name Bridie McKenna’s was chosen because of this lady’s reputation being one of friendliness, pride and for always having an open door and the kettle boiling ready to welcome family and friends to her home.

Bridie’s image which is etched on our Front Doors is a constant reminder to the owners and staff to treat their patrons with the warmth and hospitality that she was renowned for by the visitors to her home. The words above the main door “Slan Abhaile” is a “phrase” used commonly in Ireland to wish people “safe home.”

As in Ireland, Bridie McKenna’s is a Community Pub or “Public House” which reflects the owners’ commitment to being an integral part of the community. The building was designed by an architect in Ireland with a goal of reflecting the Storefronts; Colours and Character found on any Town or Village Street. The building is purpose built and covers 5,000 Sq. Ft. On the East side of the building you see a typical Irish Post Office, “Oifig an Phoist.” On the south side of the building, along our patio, is the public house, the merchant and the tobacconist store front. Victorian gates adorn the front and back ends of the beautifully landscaped patio which provides space for around 80 guests.

When you enter the main door of Bridie McKenna’s you walk into the beautiful Victorian Bar, which is based on a Dublin theme. The Victorian motif continues through the archway on the left where we have our two traditional Irish “Snugs.” In olden days, snugs would be reserved for women, who were not permitted in the main sections of the pub and also for businessmen and livestock farmers who needed to seal a deal in a private area. The archway to the right of the Victorian Bar leads to the Country Bar, which features the warm tones of pine, gingham upholstery and an open fireplace in the front corner. Musicians fill the space in front of the fireplace each week. Behind both bars is the Library. This room has a personality all its own, with breathtaking wood-work and an open fireplace. The dark wood and red upholstery provide a more cultured ambience as you are surrounded by bookshelves containing the works of great Irish writers and poets and plentiful pieces of Irish memorabilia. Come here for your business luncheons, social gatherings or simply to enjoy a “cuppa”. This room is also available for private dinners and events.

Beyond the Library is the Brewery Room which is “Party Central” at Bridie’s. It’s decorated in light pine and keg fronts and features a mobile “Guinness Bar”. Competition dart boards here will challenge you to take aim with your friends. This room is used for dining on weekends and is available for private dinners and events.

Bridie McKenna’s strives to be the finest Irish Pub in the area. We feature live music and special events every week. Come and enjoy Irish music and dance every Tuesday and contemporary music Fridays and Saturdays. Our greatest hope is that you feel at home when visiting and that you experience some world famous Irish hospitality. Bridie McKenna’s is a truly authentic Irish Pub, and a place Where customers will experience “the friendliest welcome on the North Shore.”
